Blog 4, N&N – The small slim Indian wedding, 12th-15thJuly21

With very few days at hand till the wedding, Nitin and Namrata discussed the mode, venue, and guest list. Another acquaintance of Namrata helped to design their WhatsApp wedding card. Namrata, herself was juggling between work and household tasks, yet doing quick online shopping for bare minimum things for her.

However, she demanded that they must go for some store shopping for Nitin. They visited Decathlon for casual shoes, Van Heusen for a Tuxedo set, casual shirt, and formal shoes. While the man was feeling restless, the lady showed no signs of rush and she just silently appreciated the handsome man-mannequin standing there trying on the tuxedo. It was overwhelming at most times; being with Nitin was more important to her than the wedding rituals or societal regulations. They both wanted it simple, quick, and to the minimum.

There were almost no pre-rituals at the wedding. The couple celebrated the bachelor/the bachelorette party dinner by themselves at two different places. A surprise “Haldi ceremony” was held by a friend, whose parents so happened to be in Bangalore and were kind enough to host the wedding from the bride’s side.

Nitin as promised ensured his presence during the “Mehendi” and “Haldi” ceremonies; to see that his to-be bride was not alone in those special moments. A strong-willed, mostly-loner Namrata was surprisingly not in tears; she was rather going through the checklist in her mind.

Minimalistic by nature, she had carefully put together all required items for the day. It was still unbelievable for her that she was getting married, it was happening at that moment, she didn’t plan for it and yet there she was going to embrace her Mrs. Saxena avatar.

Will she get cold feet at the end moment? Or will she survive it?

Covid restrictions made it challenging for the couple to maintain a low-key event with a lean guest list of around 15 people including kids.

The mid-monsoon had it raining for the previous day to the wedding planned on 15thJuly Thursday. “The planner” Namrata made sure that they both split all the tasks beforehand to execute without any confusion. They shopped for some packeted snacks and juices for the guests, garlands, flowers, sweets et all.

Nitin lead the wedding day by setting up the wedding venue “Arya Samaj” early in the morning, stacking the snacks for guests, hiring a last-minute photographer, setting up for a live zoom session, and coming back to pick up her soon-would-be-wife.

Namrata was all alone with her makeup artist, getting ready for the day. It was for the first time that she was having butterflies in her stomach choosing makeup style and looking after all the arrangements.

She was having mixed feelings watching Nitin come home to get ready She could see her beauty in the eyes of her soon-to-be-husband; who was silently standing in a corner devouring the moment. They both took their first selfie of the day and embarked on the journey.

The event was physically attended by a few close friends and the rest well-wishers showered their blessings over a video call in the late evening. One of the family friends arranged for a surprise gourmet Tiramisu cake and everyone attended a neatly arranged lunch at “Courtyard by Marriott”.

A wedding need not be big, fat, or grand to last long.

A bride’s expensive costume, jewellery, or makeup doesn’t decide how far her man will continue loving her.

A huge guest list and exorbitant money spent on decorations, and catering do not guarantee the sweetness of the relationships.

A marriage needs two committed souls deeply in love to conquer anything in life further.
